Chiwaukum Mt's / Scottish Lakes - 3/27-28/07

The Stevens Pass Patrol made a trip up to Scottish Lakes and the Chiwaukums as reward for completing our trainings. After getting a snowmobile ride in, enjoying a happy hour and waiting for the second wave of patrolers to show up, we made our way up Wild Bill Hill and continued up and over McCue Ridge to ski into the Chiwaukum Creek drainage. We make a few laps, checked out a few slopes and enjoyed good early season corn skiing. After returning to Scottish Lakes High Camp, Adrienne and I made dinner for the crew before slipping into the wood fired hot tub and sauna for a quick soak. The next morning we all packed up and divided into two groups, a group headed into the alpine of the Chiwaukum Range and a group heading out to the cars via Coulter Creek. Adrienne and I went with the alpine group as we quickly made our way past lake Julius then lake Ethel as we climbed to the lip of Pine Creek Cirque. After topping out the group divided once again as Adrienne and I skied spring corn back to lake Ethel via a short saddle off peak 6602. The rest of the group continued down Pine Creek Cirque via a steep couloir that dropped them back to a waiting car. We climbed back to High Camp then exited via Coulter Creek to our car.

Moonlight Bowl after work - 3/01/07

After a great day of work Stevens Pass, Adrienne and I headed across the street for a evening tour to Moonlight Bowl. We moved relatively fast under failing light up the switch backs of Skyline Ridge. I stopped and snapped off a few shots of Adrienne as the sun disappeared behind windy ridge. We slogged threw deep snow with a variable sun crust until topping out on the bowl as the sun disappeared. We raced down variable snow threw treeline and ended up on the PCT under moonlight.
